Deeply inspired by the Brazilian philosophy of anthropofagia, or cultural cannibalism, Brazilian percussionist Cyro Baptista's Banquet of the Spirits feasts on Afro-Brazilian sounds, samba, funk, metal and freewheeling jazz, as well as colors of Arabic, Celtic and Aboriginal music. Drummer-percussionist Tim Keiper, pianist Brian Marsella, and bassist/oudist Shanir Blumenkranz buoy their leader's sonic blend, with beautiful vocals and flawless musicianship and charisma.
